The UKMTO have issued a warning after receiving a confirmed report that a vessel has been fired upon. It has been reported that the vessel was approached by a small boat with six to seven armed persons onboard and made several unsuccessful attempts to board. Shots were fired from the small boat towards the vessel and the small boat departed from the scene. No casualties or damage has been reported and the crew of the vessel are all safe.

Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
