Nigeria: Pirates Demand Ransom for Abducted Passenger

It has been reported that a passenger boat was attacked by armed men in the Membe Creeks. The attackers targeted an accountant with the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board and abducted him. The accountant’s family were later contacted by the attackers and thirty million Nigerian Naira was demanded for his release.

 

Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
