Event: Pirate Attack and Kidnapping

11nm south of Brass, Nigeria

A report has been issued stating that an offshore tug has been boarded by armed pirates. The pirates kidnapped eight crew members before escaping. The Nigerian Navy was informed and rescue operations are in progress. The report also states that one crew member was injured and evacuated by helicopter.

Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
