SE Asia: Vessel Attacked by Pirates, Master and Ch Eng Kidnapped

Philippines, around 19nm se of Sibago Island

It has been reported that a tug boat has been boarded whilst underway 2nm off Sibago Island. The tug boat was towing a cargo vessel when three armed men approached in a green hulled wooden speedboat and managed to board the tug boat. It has been confirmed that the Captain and the Chief Engineer, both of Filipino nationality, have been kidnapped. The speedboat was seen departing the scene and heading towards Candiis, Tuburan or Tongkil Islands. The Naval Forces Western Mindanao are responding to this incident.

All vessels within the vicinity of this alert are advised to operate with a heightened level of security and report any suspicious activity.
