Event: Pirate Attack

Bayelsa State,    Nigeria

OPS Global Risk Management has received a report that a vessel was attacked within the Forupa waterways near Ezeotu-Zion. Pirates’ onboard two, two-engined speedboats, boarded the vessel and kidnapped the crew members. As the pirates were making their escape, the speedboats capsized. A Government security patrol arrived in the area and recovered one of the crew members alive. The remaining crew members have been reported as dead.

Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
