Event: Pirate Attack

Offshore Bayelsa, Nigeria

It has been reported that a tanker has been attacked whilst underway 50nm southwest of Agbami field. One skiff with armed men onboard approached and opened fire at the tanker, the tanker was being escorted by a security vessel who returned fire resulting in the pirates retreating and abandoning their attack. No damage to the tanker or the security vessel has been reported and all the crew are safe

Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
