Lomé, Togo

It has been reported that an anchored United Kingdom flagged tanker was approached at Lomé Anchorage. Two small boats were sighted by the duty crew members. The alarm was raised, the fire hoses on deck were activated and the Togolese Navy were notified. The two suspicious vessels made their way alongside the tanker from the forward to aft and then left the area.


Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
